Schein Spotlight with Patrick Tarrant

Pat is our dental equipment and technology expert in New South Wales. Originally from Florida, United States, he joined Henry Schein in 2004, where he has been a valuable team member ever since.
What were you doing before Henry Schein? Joined Henry Schein Dental right out of University (Business Administration: Double Degree in International Business and Marketing) and then applied for international transfer to Australia in 2005. I have been working in NSW Equipment Team for just over 20 years.
What skills or qualities do you think are most important to succeed in your role? Understanding the wider consequences of a Dental Equipment Purchase. It is has ergonomic implications, financial implications and relationship implications for the end user. So matching the correct product with the correct needs is super important. Then you need to have honest, respectful relationships with the client, their employees, as well as all the various colleagues that you need to deliver a good user experience for many years to come.
What do you like about working at Henry Schein? I love the variety of tasks; from day to day you have a mixture of project management, designing new ergonomic workspaces, demonstration of world class brands, and ongoing training of clinical staff on using the latest a greatest products in the market. I also love the relationships we get to create and sustain. From working on larger scale government or corporate projects to assisting small business owners make the right decision and helping their dream clinic come to fruition.
How do you like to unwind or spend your time outside of work? If I am not working than I am spending time with my wife and teenage son; mostly camping around the beautiful south coast in search of good surf, clear water for snorkeling and good mountain biking trails for us to enjoy. Anything that keeps us in the amazing nature we have access to here in Australia.
